| dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the four "later" plays of T. S. Eliot, namely: The Family Reunion (1939), the Cocktail Party (1949), The Confidential Clerk (1953) and The Elder Statesman (1958). These plays, written over a period of some twenty years, represent a considerable part of Eliot's literary output, yet they are seldom studied or performed.
