- ItemThe application of business process mining to improving a physical asset management process : a case study(Southern African Institute for Industrial Engineering, 2017) Greyling, Berno Theo; Jooste, WyhanENGLISH ABSTRACT: Business process planning and control is important for effectively managing and improving processes relating to the management of physical assets. This is especially true when processes affect the uptime and value creation by physical assets. This article presents a case study where an asset management process is analysed using a technique called ‘process mining’, with which it is possible to investigate the process as it is being performed in the real world. By applying process mining instead of a traditional mathematical approach, real-world issues can be identified and corrected to improve the effectiveness of the given process. A process model is first constructed to investigate process execution patterns, after which dotted charts are used to identify problem areas within the process and to propose possible areas for improvement.
- ItemA framework for establishing a human asset register for the improved management of people in physical asset management(Southern African Institute for Industrial Engineering, 2016) Kriege, Lara; Jooste, Wyhan; Vlok, P. J.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: People are fundamental to the success of managing physical assets. Line managers are increasingly becoming responsible for people- management activities that were traditionally placed within the human resources function, while often lacking effective people- management skills. A framework was developed to establish a human asset register to support asset managers in improving the management of people. The proposed framework provides a generic step-based approach to establishing a structured reflection of human dimensional information to facilitate the application of people management through asset managers. Structured expert interviews validated the proposed framework as providing a pragmatic method to solve the identified problem.
- ItemValidation of supervisor effectiveness determinants for engineering team-based organisations(Southern African Institute for Industrial Engineering, 2020-11-11) Zincume, Philani Nduna; Jooste, WyhanENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to identify, validate, and describe the determinants of supervisor effectiveness in the context of engineering team-based organisations. Five supervisor effectiveness determinants were identified through the use of the systematic literature review methodology, and validated using semi-structured interviews. This paper presents the validated supervisor effectiveness determinants using the input mediator output framework.
