In recent years, some of the focus in our laboratories has been on the use of metallocene catalysts, mostly in conjunction with methylalumoxane as cocatalyst, in the polymerisation of, inter alia, propylene. This paper reviews the main areas of research either already published or about to be published. In particular, the area of propylene copolymers is addressed. The copolymers of propylene with the linear α-]olefins C4 - C10 and C12, C14 and C18; the branched olefins 4-methyl-1-pentene, 4,4 dimethyl-1-pentene, 3-methyl-1-butene and 3-methyl-1-hexene; and other olefins (3-(1-adamantyl)propene and 1,5 hexadiene) are briefly discussed and relevant results highlighted. The effect of comonomer on the reaction mechanism with both syndiospecific and isospecific metallocene catalysts is also discussed.
