H ABSTRACT: The North-western Cape, is a semi arid area with limited natural water resources; it has an average annual rainfall of less than 250mm and only one perennial river, viz, the Orange River. It was unavoidable, therefore, that existing water resources had to be improved and supplemented in an attempt to alleviate water shortages.en_ZA
