dc.description.abstract | A frequency domain computer code, which predicts PLC (Power Line Carrier) signal attenuation, including the effect of coupling equipment, has been developed. The code was validated against measurements at ESKOM's Koeberg-Acacia 400 kV transmission line. Strong correlation, over a 28-day period, was observed between measured signal strength and predicted average phase conductor temperature. This significant finding might be exploited for real-time control of ampacity. | |
