dc.description.abstract | The teleomorph name, Mycosphaerella eumusae, and its anamorph, Pseudocercospora eumusae, are validated for the banana disease formerly known as Septoria leaf spot. This disease has been found on different Musa cultivars from tropical countries such as southern India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mauritius and Nigeria. It is contrasted with two similar species, namely Mycosphaerella fijiensis (black leaf streak or black Sigatoka disease) and Mycosphaerella musicola (Sigatoka disease). Although the teleomorphs of these three species are morphologically similar, they are phylogenetically distinct and can also be distinguished based upon the morphology of their anamorphs. | |
