Abstract
The limiting relationship between the number of live trees per hectare (N) and the mean tree diameter (D) can be conveniently expressed using Reineke's equation: ln N = a + k ln D. The parameters a and k were calculated for a number of fully stocked experimental pine stands. The limiting relationship varies among different pine species, and among growing sites within the same species. The generality of k = -1605 in the Reineke equation and possibly also the much publicised -3/2 power law of ecology are a myth.-from Author
