Abstract
ENGLISH ABSTRACT : The following master thesis analyzes the construct of gender in textbooks of German as a foreign and second language. It shows the implicit influence of gender on the construction of textbook reality and how gendered subjects are positioned in it. To limit the scope of the analysis, it links the topics gender and leisure. It uses an interdisciplinary approach combining Foucault’s understanding of power and discourse, Butler’s approach to gender studies and Altmayer’s concept of cultural studies regarding German as a foreign and second language.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING : Hierdie meesterstesis ondersoek gender-konstrukte in handboeke vir Duits as ‘n eerste en tweede addisionele taal. Gewys word die implisiete invloed van geslag op die uiteenlegging van handboeke en die manier waarop geslagsonderwerpe daarin voorkom. Om die omvang van die analise in te perk, word die temas gender en ontspanning met mekaar verknoop. ‘n Interdissiplinêre aanslag word geneem deur die teorieë van Foucault oor mag en diskoers, Butler se gender studies en Altmayer se kultuurbegrip in verband met Duits as ‘n eerste en tweede addisionele taal, te kombineer.
