dc.description.abstractThe paper analyses the dilemma of religious instruction in schools and the factors which contribute to the present unsatisfactory situation. The question is asked whether the expectations concerning religious instruction are realistic and the various reactions to this problem are discussed. Finally, the significance of the new awareness that biblical interpretation must be situated in the broader context of life itself, is examined and the paper is concluded with some suggestions of what this may imply for religious instruction in the South African situation.en_ZA
