Abstract
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A series of experiments was conducted to determine the nutritional status of reproducing ewes utilizing tropical and legume pastures, as well as different crop residues. The type of supplementary feed required by sheep utilizing there pastures was also determined. Although oesophageally fistulated (OF) wethers selected samples of relatively good qualilty [mean values of 18.3% crude protein (CP) and 62.3% in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) from irrigated kikuyu pasture, intake studies suggested inadequate ingestion CP and digestible organic matter (DOM) by ewes during lactation.
