dc.description.abstractENGLISH ABSTRACT: The study is directed at the design of a practice model for the purpose of integrating social work research and social work direct practice. The motivation for the study was the increased emphasis on the measurement and evaluation of the effectiveness of direct practice which makes the social worker accountable to clients, organisations and donors. The research was conducted within the conceptual defines of developmental research. The existing state of social technology concerned with the measurement and evaluation of direct practice was undertaken by means of a literature study. In addition to the latter, a quantitative research programme was utilized to acquire information by means of a questionnaire and the implementation of a measurement scale to develop and test the conceptual framework of a practice model. Qualitative research was also utilised to describe the respondents' perceptions regarding the acceptability of the practice model. The research group consisted of practising social workers and final year students in Social Work. The practice model is therefore a product of existing knowledge and innovative effort in social technology. The practice model provides directives for the integration of social work research and social work direct practice with the aid of measuring instruments and evaluation procedures. The probability that the model could be applied within the boundaries of social work practice and social work training is extremely high, since it consists of a scientifically based conceptual framework which has been experimentally tested. The model can therefore be included in the theoretical curriculae and programmes of field instruction of undergraduate students. It can also be included in programmes for continuous education. Practising social workers can apply the practice model for the formulation and evaluation of social welfare programmes. It will also contribute towards the accountability of direct practice to the client system and to improve the quality thereof. The application of the model should ensure to acquire and maintain the support and interest of the public at large and of private donors. It is essential that the practice model should be submitted to tests to determine its effectiveness and to provide for the evaluation and redesign of the model. Further research in this regard is essential to ensure that the application of the practice model is continually investigated.en_ZA
dc.description.abstractAFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die studie handel oor die ontwerp van 'n praktykmodel vir die integrering van maatskaplikewerk-navorsing en maatskaplikewerk-hulpverlening. Die motivering vir die studie was die toenemende klem op meting en die evaluering van die effektiwiteit van hulpverlening waarvolgens maatskaplike werkers hulle verantwoord teenoor kliente, organisasies en donateurs. Die ondersoek is binne die konseptuele raamwerk van ontwikkelingsnavorsing gedoen. Derhalwe is die stand van bestaande maatskaplike tegnologie vir meting en evaluering van die effektiwiteit van hulpverlening met behulp van 'n literatuurstudie ondersoek. Hierbenewens is kwantitatiewe navorsing benut om data te versamel met behulp van 'n vraelys en die implementering van 'n metingskaal om die konseptuele raamwerk vir 'n praktykmodel te ontwikkel en te toets. Kwalitatiewe navorsing is ook gebruik om die respondente se motivering vir hulle oordeel ten opsigte van die aanvaarbaarheid van die praktykmodel te beskryf. Die ondersoekgroep het bestaan uit praktiserende maatskaplike werkers en finalejaarstudente in die Maatskaplike Werk. Die praktykmodel is dus 'n produk van bestaande kennis en ook innovasie van maatskaplike tegnologie. Die praktykmodel verskaf riglyne vir die integrering van maatskaplikewerk-navorsing en maatskaplikewerk-hulpverlening met behulp van meetinstrumente en evalueringsprosedures. Die waarskynlikheid dat die model binne die praktyk- en opleidingsituasie benut kan word, is hoog, want dit bestaan uit 'n wetenskaplike gefundeerde konseptuele raamwerk wat ook eksperimenteel beproef is. Die model kan derhalwe ingesluit word by die teoretiese leerplan en program vir praktykopleiding van voorgraadse studente. Dit kan ook vervat word in programme vir voortgesette onderrig. Praktiserende maatskaplike werkers kan die praktykmodel gebruik vir die formulering en evaluering van welsynsprogramme. Dit sal ook bydra tot verantwoordbare hulpverlening aan die klientsisteem en om die kwaliteit van maatskaplikewerk-hulpverlening te verbeter. Dit behoort te verseker dat die ondersteuning en belangstelling van die publiek en donateurs verkry en behou sal word. Dit is noodsaaklik dat die praktykmodel ook prakties getoets sal word om die effektiwiteit daarvan vas te stel en om die evaluering en herontwerp van die praktykmodel moontlik te maak. Verdere navorsing kan hieruit volg wat sal verseker dat die toepassingsmoontlikhede van die praktykmodel voortdurend ondersoek sal word.af_ZA
