H ABSTRACT: Descriptions of the skull, jaw muscles , the nasal sacs and the middle ear are given. The cranial kinesis and a possible mode of jaw action are discussed. The palate is shown to be of the scincid type. Although the stapes pierced by the stapedial artery suggests geckonid affinity (Underwood , 1957 and Guibe , 1970) the non-geokonid relations of the chorda tympani and the scincid type of palate argue strongly in favour of a close relationship with the Scincidae. There would, indeed, seem to be no valid reason for retaining the family Dibamidae and it is suggested that the genus Dibamus be included in the Scincidae.en_ZA
