Abstract
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Crocidolite and chrysotile asbestos suspensions were ip injected into rats. Peritoneal mesotheliomas were induced in 90% of the crocidolite group and in 30% of the chrysotile group. The pathology and possible pathogenesis are described and discussed. It is postulated that the asbestos fibers are encapsulated by fibrous tissue and that a soluble carcinogen then diffuses from these fibers to the mesothelial cells, causing anaplastic changes.
