Abstract
ENGLISH ABSTRACT : This thesis aims to make a contribution to the field of teaching German as a Foreign Language. Based on Dobstadt and Riedner’s theoretical concept of “didactics of literariness” (“Didaktik der Literarizität”) and considering Kramsch’s concept of a “symbolic competence”, it provides didactical suggestions for teaching the novels Tschick and Bilder deiner großen Liebe by Wolfgang Herrndorf on a B1 – B2 level. The goal is to develop the learner’s understanding of the complexity of language, to make them aware of the literariness of literary texts and to gain a broader understanding of language itself.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING : Hierdie tesis beoog om ‘n bydrae te lewer op die gebied van onderrig in Duits as ‘n Vreemdetaal. Gebaseer op Dobstadt en Riedner se teoretiese konsep “didaktiek van letterkundigheid” (“Didaktik der Literarizität”) en Kramsch se konsep van ‘n “simboliese kompetensie”, word hier didaktiese voorstelle gemaak, hoe om Wolfgang Herrndorf se Tschick en Bilder deiner großen Liebe in die praktyk op B1 – B2 vlak om te sit. Die doel is dat die leerders die kompleksiteit van taal kan verstaan, van die letterkundigheid van literêre tekste bewus kan wees en taal in sigself beter kan verstaan.
