dc.description.abstract	A disturbingly high incidence of malnutrition has been found in patients with chronic liver disease, in patients with renal failure on chronic haemodialysis, and in the elderly. The aetiology of malnutrition would appear to be variable, and nutrient requirements may furthermore be disease-specific. The recognition and amelioration of malnutrition in chronic disease states should form an integral part of the overall patient management.	en_ZA
