dc.description.abstractENGLISH ABSTRACT: The lack of tactical point-to-multi-point packet radio network standards in industry motivated the development of a suitable standard. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Tactical Radio Data Communications (TRDC) STandard was developed and documented during 1994 and 1995. This standard is used as basis for different tactical radio networks in the SANDF. One way to extensively test a standard is to implement it and test its performance in the field. This project deals with the implementation and testing of the SANDF TRDC Standard. During the project, the documentation is updated to include missing design detail and changes in the final standard. The result of the project is a documented and operational radio network standard, which is tested in the laboratory and which is ready for tests in the field.en_ZA
dc.description.abstractAFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die tekort aan taktiese punt-tot-multi-punt pakket radio-netwerk standaarde in die industrie het die ontwikkeling van 'n geskikte standaard gemotifeer. Die 'South African National Defence Force (SANDF) TActical Radio Data Communications (TRDC) Standard' is ontwikkel en gedokumenteer in 1994 en 1995. Hierdie standaard word gebruik as basis vir verskeie taktiese radio-netwerke in die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Weermag (SANW). Een metode om 'n standaard deeglik te toets, is om dit te implementeer en in die praktyk te toets. Hierdie projek handel oor die implementering en toets van die "SANDF TRDC Standard". Tydens die projek word die dokumentasie ook opgedateer om die tekortkomminge en veranderinge te bevat vir die finale standaard. Die resultate van die projek is 'n gedokumenteerde, operationele radio-netwerk standaard wat getoets is in die laboratorium en gereed is vir toetse in die praktyk.af_ZA
