dc.description.abstractPersistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn is a neonatal emergency with a high mortality rate in spite of several advances in the management thereof. The underlying pathophysiology is complex and multifactorial. The gold standard of treatment is inhaled nitric oxide, yet up to a third of patients will not respond to standard treatment. This article reviews treatment modalities available, as well as the evidence to support the use of these treatment options.en_ZA
