| dc.description.abstract | ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The researcher's choice of theme, an Ecclesiologic theological research to the theological training and ministry formation praxis in the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa, is not only academically motivated. In the dissertation, the researcher does an ecclesiologic theological inquiry into the theological training and ministry formation practice in the URCSA. The researcher posits that a lack of awareness of power and where it is situated, as well as how it influences the discourse regarding theological education and ministry, makes it difficult for the URCSA to make informed decisions regarding ministry formation. In Chapter 1 the research topic is set out, highlighted and motivated. In Chapter 2, the theoretical basis and the historiographic approach followed in the dissertation will be discussed. In Chapter 3 attention will be paid to the theological education of the DRCA including the Stofberg Memorial School (1908-1959). Chapter 4 of the study gives a historical overview of the theological education of the DRMC in the period 1929 to 1999. Chapter 5 of the study focuses on the theological training of the URCSA from 1994 to 2016 and the Seminary as an institutional ecclesiastical space for the students’ mentorship and personal development. Chapter 6 of the study discusses the meaning and challenges of theological training and ministry formation praxis for the URCSA. | en_ZA |
| dc.description.abstract | AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die navorser se keuse vir die tema, ’n ekklesiologies-teologiese ondersoek na die teologiese opleiding en bedieningsvorming praxis in die Verenigende Gereformeerde Kerk in Suider Afrika (VGKSA) is nie slegs akademies gemotiveer nie. Die navorser wil aan die hand van dié dissertasie ’n ekklesiologies-teologiese ondersoek na die teologiese opleiding en bedieningsvorming praxis in die VGKSA doen. Die navorseringsvraag in die dissertasie is as volg: Is daar ʼn gebrekkige kennis met betrekking tot mag en waar dit setel is wat uiteraard op een of ander wyse die diskoers met betrekking tot teologiese opleiding en bedieningsvorming van die Nederduits Gereformeerde Sendingkerk in Suid Afrika (NGSK), Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk in Afrika (NGKA) en of die Verenigende Gereformeerde Kerk in Suider Afrika (VGKSA) negatief of positief beïnvloed het? In die inleidende hoofstuk word die navorsingsonderwerp ontvou, toegelig en gemotiveer.In Hoofstuk 2 word die teoretiese basis asook die historiografiese benadering wat in die dissertasie gevolg word, bespreek. In Hoofstuk 3 word aandag verleen aan die teologiese opleiding van die NGKA en word die rol van die Stofberg-Gedenkskool uitvoerig bespreek (1908-1959). Hoofstuk 4 van die studie bied ʼn historiese oorsig van die teologiese opleiding van die NGSK vir die tydperk 1929 tot 1999. Hoofstuk 5 word gewy aan die teologiese opleiding van die VGKSA (1994-2016) en die Seminarium as institusionele kerklike ruimte waarbinne die geestelike- roepings- en persoonsvorming van die studente plaasvind.
