- ItemDie gebruik van bariumsulfied om sulfate uit suur industriele uitvloeisels te verwyder.(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 1984) Volman, Rudy; Cloete, F. L. D.; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Engineering. Dept. of Chemical Engineering.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A survey has been carried out of the quantities and compositions of acidic industrial effluents in South Africa. A process flow diagram for the removal of sulphates from acidic industrial effluents using barium sulphide, is given. The sulphates are precipitated as barium sulphate. The barium sulphate is recovered by settling and filtration. The flux curve and filtration properties for barium sulphate was determined. Sulphides present in the water are stripped as H2S. Equations for stripping H2S from water utilizing recirculation, can be implemented for the optimization of the stripping process. The reduction of barium sulphate with carbon is discussed by means of a kinetic model. The influence of Fe2O3, SiO2 and Al2O3 on the reduction process has been determined.
