Faculty of Education. Dept. of Educational Psychology.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to investigate whether any tendencies in the multigenerational transmission of the family experience of opposite sexed first born children over two successive generations could be identified. Bene and Anthony's Family Relations Test (Children's Versions, 1957; Adult Version, 1965) was administered to obtain data concerning the family experience of a group of first born parents and their eldest children of the opposite sex on the following four dimensions: - positive feelings going towards other family members (“Out⁺”) - negative feelings going towards other family members (“Out⁻”) - positive feelings coming from other family members (“In⁺”) - negative feelings coming from other family members (“In⁻”) The data was analized in order to identify tendencies in the multigenerational transmission of relationship patterns of the eldest child over two successive generations. Multigenerational transmission of the same relationship patterns was found on the incoming negative (“In⁻”) dimension of family experience for first born fathers and their eldest daughters only. Significant differences in the multigenerational transmission of relationship patterns on the other dimensions of family experience were found for first born fathers and their eldest daughters as well as for first born mothers and their eldest sons. These findings suggest that the transmission of similar family relationship sexed eldest patterns over children can position in the family. two successive generations of opposite not be assumed on shared ordinal Recommendations for further research in the multigenerational transmission of family relationship patterns are discussed.
