- ItemPolyvinyl alcohol and amine-modified polyvinyl alcohol nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 1993) Bezuidenhout, Deon; Sanderson, R. D.; van Reenen, A. J.; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Science. Dept. of Chemistry and Polymer Science.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study concerns the modification of polyvinyl alcohol (PVAL) by raction with potassium persulphate (K2S2O8) to form tolerant insolubale nanofiltration membranes on tubular polyther sulphone (PES) ultrafiltration substrates. These membranes gave 50 5 retention and 40 lmh flux for a 2000ppm NaCI feed, and 75% retention and 40 lmh flux for feed containing 1000 ppm MgSO4 (2 MPa, 20 degrees Celcius, 1,3 m/s). The effect of the production variables on membrane performance is discussed. The reaction of PVAL with K2S2O8 was characterized by various spectroscopic and other techniques.

D.; Zilla, P.; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Science. Dept. of Chemistry & Polymer Science .ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Please refer to fulltext for abstract.
- ItemTactical radio data communications network(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 1997-10) Bezuidenhout, Deon; Bakkes, P. J.; Du Plessis, J. J.; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Engineering. Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The lack of tactical point-to-multi-point packet radio network standards in industry motivated the development of a suitable standard. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Tactical Radio Data Communications (TRDC) STandard was developed and documented during 1994 and 1995. This standard is used as basis for different tactical radio networks in the SANDF. One way to extensively test a standard is to implement it and test its performance in the field. This project deals with the implementation and testing of the SANDF TRDC Standard. During the project, the documentation is updated to include missing design detail and changes in the final standard. The result of the project is a documented and operational radio network standard, which is tested in the laboratory and which is ready for tests in the field.
