- ItemDevelopment of a Short Form of the South African Career Interest Inventory with an Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm(Stellenbosch University, 2024-12) Aspeling, Carl Mark; De Bruin, Gideon P.; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. Dept. of Industrial Psychology. This research investigates the utilisation of ant colony optimization (ACO) for the purpose of reducing the length of a psychometric scale inspired by Holland's theory of career interests. The primary objective is to assess the accuracy of ACO in comparison to traditional methods employed for reducing the length of psychometric scales. The study employs an approach involving the development of a condensed version of the original measure, known as SACII, through confirmatory factor analyses executed within an ACO algorithm. Additionally, data from an existing archival database is utilised as part of the research methodology. The outcomes strongly support the efficacy of ACO in conducting confirmatory factor analysis for the SACII instrument. These findings emphasize the potential of ACO as a reliable technique for the reduction of psychometric tests, offering valuable insights to researchers and practitioners engaged in the field of industrial psychology.
