dc.description.abstractThe coastal Namib is characterized by low habitat diversity, low primary productivity and adverse climatic conditions, and therefore few primary consumers. These are restricted to favourable habitats, often very localized. The relatively large array of carnivores subsist to a very large extent on food of marine origin, eg seals and seabirds. -from Author
