Acoholism may constitute the major health problem
in many pans of the world, with its effects on
morbidiry and monality grossly underestimated
in world health statistics.' Alcohol-related neuropsychiatric
disorders constitute a particularly large and
incapacitating subset of the medical complications of
alcoholism.
