Abstract
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: In Suid-Afrika is daar waarskynlik genoeg werkers vir wêreldevangelisasie beskikbaar, en bestaan baie van die strukture vir die uitstuur van die werkers reeds; tog weet gemeentes en voornemende werkers dikwels nie hoe om te werk te gaan nie. Onderliggend aan die probleem is verskille in interpretasie van, en gevolglik toepassing van Bybelse riglyne vir die kerk, gemeentes, sendelinge, en wêreldevangelisasie. Hierdie verskille kom duidelik na vore as gekyk word na modelle wat gebruik word om werkers beskikbaar te stel vir wêreldevangelisasie. In hierdie tesis is sodanige gemeentelike modelle geëvalueer deur na die wêreld as konteks vir sturende gemeentes te kyk, sowel as na 'n Bybelse gemeentestrategie as basis.In die inleidende hoofstuk is benewens die probleemstelling en doelstelling, ook aandag gegee aan enkele uitgangspunte en begripsverklarings. In hoofstuk 2, oor konteksvormers vir sturende gemeentes, is agt Suid-Afrikaanse faktore geidentifiseer wat die praktyk beinvloed. Omdat Suid-Afrika nie geisoleer kan word van sy internasionale omgewing nie, is sewe wêreldstrominge en hulle implikasies ook bespreek. In hoofstuk 3, wat handel oor 'n Bybelse gemeentestrategie as basis, het beskrywings van enkele Nuwe-Testamentiese gemeentes in sending, sowel as 'n ondersoek na roeping en leiding, gelei tot kriteria waarvolgens hedendaagse stuurder-modelle geëvalueer kan word. Tien vaste beginsels vir sturende gemeentes is geidentifiseer wat in alle Nuwe-Testamentiese gemeentes voorgekom het. Daarteenoor is ses areas aangetoon waarin Bybelse riglyne wissel volgens die konteks waarin die gemeente of sendelinge hulle bevind. Die vorming en evaluering van bestaande gemeentelike stuurder-modelle is in hoofstuk 4 behandel. Ses kernelemente vorm modelle: die plaaslike gemeente, die gestuurde werker self, kanale of agente, strukture op die arbeidsveld, die werker se opgelegde taak, en die tydsaspek. Twee niegemeentlike stuurder-modelle is beskryf en geëvalueer: die onafhanklike sendelingmodel, en die sendingorganisasiemodel. Die mees algemene gemeentelike modelle wat geëvalueer is, sluit in: die sinodale sendelingmodel, die direk-gemeentelike sendelingmodel, die samewerkingsmodel, die aanklop sendelingmodel, en die vennootskapmodel. In die laaste hoofstuk is enkele tendense in die benutting van modelle in Suid-Afrika bespreek, asook rigtingwysers vir die toekoms.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: South Africa probably has enough workers available for world evangelisation, and many of the structures needed for sending out workers already exist; yet, many local congregations and prospective missionaries do not know how to organise the missionary sending process. Underlying this problem are differences in the interpretation of, and therefore the application of Biblical guidelines for the church, local congregations, missionaries, and world evangelisation. These differences are clear when we look at different models used to free workers for world evangelisation. In this thesis such models were evaluated by looking at the world as context for sending congregations, as well as a Biblical strategy as departure point for local congregations. In the first chapter, the problem and goals of the thesis is set forward, with a section devoted to definitions of key concepts and premises. In chapter 2, dealing with forces which shape the context and practice of sending congregations, eight South African factors were identified. South Africa cannot be isolated from the international arena, therefore seven more international trends were discussed. In chapter 3, which deals with a Biblical strategy as departure point for congregations, descriptions were given of some New Testament congregations in mission. A section was also devoted to Biblical guidelines for calling and guidance. Criteria for evaluating present sending models were derived: in ten areas, congregations have to follow guidelines found in all New Testament examples; in six aspects of missionary sending, Biblical guidelines differ according to the local circumstances of congregations. The formation and evaluation of present missionary sending models were discussed in chapter 4. Six key elements work together to form sending models: the missionary, the local congregation, channels or agents, receiving structures on the field of service, the missionary's task, and the time aspect or strategy. Two non-congregational models were described and evaluated: the independent missionary model, and the mission organisation model. The most prevalent congregational models which were evaluated, included: the synod missionary model, the direct sending model, the cooperation model, the deputation model ("aanklop-sendelingmodel"), and the partnership model. In the last chapter some trends in the use of models in the South African context were discussed, as well as indicators for the future.
