Abstract
The prevention of child sexual abuse presents a major challenge to society. The researcher developed a board game as part of the Hands Off Our Children Campaign (HOOC) to promote the prevention of sexual abuse by teaching children self-protective behaviours. A representative sample of 1 697 Grade 4 learners, nine to twelve years old, were selected from the Metropole East region, Western Cape. To determine the impact of the HOOC board game, the results of the Children's Knowledge of Abuse Questionnaire-Revised (CKAQ-RIII) in the experimental and control groups were compared. The reliability of the American-based CKAQ-RIII in the South African context was also investigated.
