Conference Paper

Methods are considered which extend short streamflow records by making use of related longer records, such as streamflow or rainfall records. The annual models proposed by R. M. Hirsch together with three additional models of the same type are considered and compared using a Monte Carlo experiment. Of particular concern was that the method should not introduce a systematic bias in the statistics of importance namely the mean, the standard deviation and the serial correlation coefficient of the stream flow series. The best method was then extended so that it could also be applied to seasonal flow for example monthly flow.
