Abstract
From May 1976 until January 1981 74 patients received 76 renal transplants at Tygerberg Hospital. Forty-one patients (55%) developed at least one surgical complication. Four patients (5.4%) died from widespread sepsis. In this article we review the possible causes of and preventive measures against surgical complications after renal transplantation.
