Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the milk production potential of "Mott" dwarf elephantgrass (Pennisetum purpureum)(DEG), a new and untested grass in South Africa, to that of kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum), a widely used grass in intensive animal production in South Africa. Three trials were conducted: a production trial with 4 dairy cows, a degradability trial with canulated non-lactating Holstein cows and a digestibility trial with wethers.
