Abstract
The optimisation of six parameters of a 9.2 MHz high power inductively coupled plasma source was undertaken by making use of a sequential simplex method. Detection limits and line to background ratios were used as measures of response, but the latter proved to be more reproducible. It is shown that the percentage spread about the mean for the various parameters diminished considerably as a result of the optimisation. Much improved line to background ratios resulted from the optimisation as well as lower detection limits. © 1981.
