Abstract
A simple control method is proposed whereby the reluctance synchronous machine can be optimally controlled in the low- and high-speed regions of the machine. The current space phasor is controlled in such a way that best performance is always obtained in terms of torque-to-current ratio or power factor. The d-q mathematical model of the machine is used to describe the optimum control of the current space phasor at speeds above rated speed. The results show clearly that the reluctance synchronous machine is supremely capable of operating in the high-speed region.
