Abstract
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van die studie is om die rol wat die maatskaplike werker by indiensopleiding in tehuise vir bejaardes kan vervul, te bepaal. Die vertrekpunt is om die noodsaaklikheid van indiensopleiding en die omvang daarvan in tehuise vas te stel. Die mate waarin die maatskaplike werker by die ontwikkeling, toepassing en evaluering van opleidingsprogramme betrokke is, word bepaal. In die lig van die vermindering van subsidies en die afskaling van personeel is indiensopleiding noodsaaklik om 'n koste-effektiewe dienslewering aan die bejaarde te lewer. Die noodsaaklikheid van indiensopleiding word erken, maar geniet nie altyd prioriteit by tehuise nie. lndiensopleiding hou voordele vir die tehuis, die personeel en die inwoners in en behoort 'n integrale deel van dienslewering te vorm. Die betrokkenheid van die ·maatskaplike werker by dienslewering in tehuise en by indiensopl'eidingsprogramme word erken, maar die potensiaal van die maatskaplike werker en die rolle wat vervul kan word, word nie benut nie. Die betrokkenheid van maatskaplike werkers kan besparings meebring en dienslewering verbeter. Riglyne en aanbevelings oor die implementering van resultaat-georienteerde indiensopleiding en die bydrae wat die maatskaplike werker kan lewer, word gemaak .
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of the study is to assess the role the social worker can fulfill in in-service training in homes for the aged. The study aims to determine the need for and the extent of in-service training in homes for the aged. The involvement of the social worker in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of in-service training programmes is established. The reduction in subsidies and the down sizing of personnel emphasise the importance of in-service training to enable personnel to render a cost efficient service to the elderly. The importance of in-service training is generally recognised, but it does not receive the necessary attention. Training benefits the home, personnel and residents and must be an integral part _of service rendered. The involvement of the social worker in rendering serviaes in homes and in in-service training is increasingly recognised, but the potential and the roles that can be fulfilled, are not being utilised. The kind of services the social workers can render, can ensure cost saving and improvement in the quality of services in homes. Guidelines and recommendations for the implementation of result orientated in-service training and the contribution of the social worker are discussed.
