- ItemDecolonising the researcher’s mind about southern research: reflections from the field(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2011-11) Daniels, Doria; Stellenbosch University Language Centre; Heloise DavisDoria Daniels was born and grew up in the Strand, in the Boland. She attended Strand Moslem Primary School and matriculated from Gordon High School in Somerset West. From 1977 to 1980 she studied full time at the University of the Western Cape, where she obtained her BA degree and HDE. Whilst being a high school teacher she studied part time towards her B Ed degree, which she was awarded in 1984. In 1988 she decided to pursue an MA degree in Instructional Design and Technology at the University of Iowa in the USA. In 1996 she completed a PhD in International and Intercultural Education at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, USA. From 1997 to 2000 she was a member of the Department of Curriculum Studies in the Faculty of Education at Rand Afrikaans University, now the University of Johannesburg. In 2001 she accepted an appointment at Stellenbosch University as Director of Community Services, a position that she held for two years. She returned to academia in 2003 when she joined the Department of Educational Psychology at Stellenbosch University as an associate professor. In 2011 she was promoted to a full professor. She has a C-3 rating as researcher from the National Research Foundation. Her research and scholarship are in the areas of visual-based inquiry, women’s access to education, non-formal education, gender, and community education. Her scholarly accomplishments include a scholarship from the University of Iowa for her MA degree, a scholarship for PhD studies from the Institute of International Education, and a Cyril O Houle Fellowship in Adult and Continued Education from the Kellogg Foundation. She is currently the regional editor for Africa for QSE, The International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education.
- ItemEnvironmental education and teacher development : engaging a dual curriculum challenge(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2011-09) Reddy, Chris; SU Language Centre; Heloise DavisProf Chris Reddy was born and raised in the suburb of Grassy Park on the Cape Flats where he still resides today. He attended the English Church Primary School and was involved in local sport, representing the Crusaders soccer and cricket clubs at junior and senior levels. After matriculating at Heathfield High School he commenced his tertiary studies at the University of the Western Cape, where he obtained the following qualifi - cations: Secondary Teacher’s Diploma, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science Honours and Master of Philosophy (Science Education). Subsequently he completed his PhD(Curriculum Studies)at Stellenbosch University. Prof Reddy served as a biology teacher at the Oaklands High School for more than a decade before taking up a position as a part-time lecturer/researcher at Stellenbosch University in 1997. He was appointed a full-time lecturer in 1999 and was promoted to senior lecturer (ad hominem) in 2003, to associate professor (ad hominem) in 2006 and to full professor in July 2011. He currently serves as the Chairperson (Head) of the Department of Curriculum studies, coordinates the Master of Education pro - gramme in curriculum studies, the Environmental Education Programme University of Stellenbosch (EEPUS) and serves on a number of committees in the Faculty of Education. Prof Reddy is a National Research Foundation-rated researcher and his research fields include teacher education (pre- and in-service), environmental education and curri culum studies. He regularly does presentations at national and international con - feren ces and has published and co-authored in all three fields with outputs ranging from peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, popular articles to research and tech nical reports. He was awarded research funding from statutory bodies as well as private foundations and funders, and co-ordinated a number of community outreach research and development projects in the Western Cape, Free State, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Provinces. He has also served on the coordinating committees of national research projects in environmental education, regularly serves as an external examiner for higher degrees of other universities, serves as a reviewer for various journals and is on the editorial board of two international scholarly journals. Prof Reddy served as President of the Education Association of South Africa from 2008 to 2010.

- ItemMotivation to lead, manage or govern schools for results – which results(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2011-10) Heystek, Jan; SU Language Centre; Heloise DavisProf Jan Heystek started his professional career as a teacher in Pretoria in 1985. During the following years he continued with his studies, completing honours, master’s and doctoral degrees while progressing from teacher to deputy principal. He started his academic career as a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria in 1995. During his term at the university he played a leading role in restructuring the honours degree, as well as the Advanced Certificate in Education Management delivered to students via a mixed-mode delivery model. These programmes were developed with the aim of “taking the university to the students”; this provided thousands of students in rural areas the opportunity to achieve a university qualification, which not only benefitted them as teachers, but also played an important part in the development of rural communities. In August 2006 Prof Heystek was appointed as associate professor in the Department of Education Policy Studies at Stellenbosch University, and in July 2011 he was appointed Professor in Educational Leadership and Management in the same Department. In November 2010 he received a C2 academic rating. Prof Heystek is the co-author of two textbooks, Human resource management in education (2005) and People leadership in education (2008), as well as the author of six chapters published in different international books. Since 1995, four doctoral and 19 master’s degree students have completed their research under his leadership. Prof Heystek is the author or co-author of 26 articles published in nationally and internationally refereed and accredited journals, and has presented numerous papers at international and national conferences covering governance and leadership in the diverse and changing South African educational landscape.
