Abstract
SOUTH AFRICA HAS AN EFFECTIVE regulatory framework for transgenics, and its rate of adopting genetic modification technology is amongst the highest in the world. However, the ecological consequences of introducing genetically modified organisms in this country have not been systematically explored. It is critical to do so if we are to continue to make informed choices on the extent to which the technology should be adopted.
