Abstract
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of the study was to identify cultural factors influencing the management of HIV/AIDS patients in order to raise awareness and improve management of patients within the community of Ekurhuleni North in Gauteng. A qualitative study was conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire and 60 patients from Dan Kubheka Clinic in Ekurhuleni were interviewed. The findings of the study revealed that there are cultural factors that influence the management of patients on ART and that such factors do have an impact on the management of patients.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van die studie was om die kulturele faktore te identifiseer wat die bestuur van MIV/Vigs pasiënte beïnvloed, om sodoende meer bewustheid te werf en die bestuur van pasiënte in die Noordelike Ekurhuleni gemeenskap in Gauteng te verbeter. ‘n Kwalitatiewe studie was uitgevoer deur middel van ‘n semi-gestruktureerde vraelys waar onderhoude met 60 pasiënte van die Dan Kubheka kliniek in Ekurhuleni gedoen was. Die bevindinge het onthul dat daar wel kulturele faktore is wat die bestuur van pasiënte op ART beïnvloed en dat sulke faktore wel ‘n impak het op die bestuur van pasiënte.
