The clinical and pathological features of vesical leukoplakia are described. The etiology of leukoplakia is unknown, its treatment is unsatisfactory, and it may be impossible to diagnose malignant change early enough to cure the patient by cystectomy. Prophylactic cystectomy is therefore indicated for patients of either sex with extensive vesical leukoplakia.
