The Tristan Islanders were asked go to Marion as they are known for being excellent shipbuilders and boatmen. Two Tristan longboats were taken to Marion, along with other boats, to assist with the unloading of cargo.
Supplies were sent to the beach with boats, where the supplies and materials were hoisted from the beach with a crane, originally made from wood, onto Gunner's Point.
