As per: http://blogs.sun.ac.za/news/2012/03/26/internet-entrepreneur-roelof-botha-at-su-on-april-10. "Internet entrepreneur and venture capital specialist, Roelof Botha, will visit Stellenbosch University (SU) on 10 April where he will address students. Botha, who will receive an honorary degree from SU on Thursday, 29 March, is one of the leading investors produced by South Africa in the era of the Internet. He will receive his degree in absentia. At the age of 38 he is already a billionaire and a leader of one of the top venture-capital companies in Silicon Valley in the USA – Sequoia Capital. He was instrumental in the development of PayPal, which was subsequently bought by top-trademark company eBay. This led to a partnership in Sequoia Capital where it is his task to recognise the potential of new companies at an early stage and guide them to success, as he did with YouTube, Meebo, Xoom and many other start-up ventures. The degree Doctor of Commerce (DComm), honoris causa, will be awarded to Botha for his inspiring and pioneering leadership in the development of a safe and convenient payment system for the Internet, as well as for his imaginative and visionary entrepreneurial spirit in recognising, and developing through venture capital, the potential of new companies. By conferring this degree on Botha, the University seeks to inspire its students with the knowledge that when exceptional talents are complemented with imagination and hard work, the highest achievements are attainable."
