Employability in a developmental context for a just dispensation
Botman, H. Russel
Date Issued:2011-10
Abstract:
The worldwide challenge of poverty is exacerbated by the current global economic
slowdown, which is likely to affect even regions that have been experiencing good economic
growth the past decade, such as Africa and China. The higher education sector is well placed
to drive development, both in terms of the economy and society more broadly speaking. High
unemployment means that universities have a big responsibility to deliver graduates that meet
the needs of the labour market, but expectations need to be managed so that the old
misunderstandings between employers and universities can be cleared up. Both employers
and educators should take heed of growing demands for social justice.
