Congenital annular subvalvular left ventricular aneurysms in children of mixed ethnic origin
Three cases of idiopathic subannular mitral valve aneurysm are described in children of mixed ethnic origin. Initially these defects were only described in black patients and were thought to be genetically induced. Lately a few cases of these abnormalities were described in white patients, making the genetic basis of this abnormality unlikely. All 3 patients presented with mitral valve incompetence and cardiac failure and it is therefore crucial that subannular aneurysms of the left ventricle be considered in the differential diagnosis in children who have mitral valve incompetence with no obvious underlying cause.
