SIMULATION OF ADSORPTION OF METAL CYANIDES IN PACKED BEDS OF ACTIVATED CARBON.
Material balance equations were developed to describe the adsorption of metal complexes on activated carbon in packed beds. These equations were solved by means of finite difference methods. Kinetic parameters were estimated from micro-column runs and from batch stirred tank reactor systems which were closed to the atmosphere. Determination of solid-liquid equilibrium was done in rolled bottles which were closed to the atmosphere. These parameters were used to predict breakthrough curves for a leached gold solution and a synthetic silver solution. Reasonable agreement between experimental and predicted curves was obtained.
