Abstract
The necklacing method of murder is a feature of political unrest in South Africa and has become part of an emotive scenario which symbolises the resistance of the radical left in the political spectrum. The dramatic nature of this form of murder has appealed to lawless elements and has been applied even in simple crime and vengeance. It may further be used to mislead the police in their efforts to establish motives. The following report describes such a case where the murder was committed for petty non-political reasons.
