Abstract
Wind data for several years from four stations in the N part of the Namib sand desert were analysed in terms of their geomorphological effectiveness with regard to their sand transportation potential. Results indicate that, with the exception of the Walvis Bay area, the net resultant sand transportation direction for the whole N Namib points away from the episodic Kuiseb River. There is thus at present no real threat of the Kuiseb River bed being inundated by desert sand from the S situated Namib sand sea. -Author
