Nucleic acid synthesis in myocardial ischaemia and infarction
The rates of in vivo and in vitro labeling of DNA and RNA in left and right ventricles were studied at various time intervals after right coronary artery ligation. The RNA concentrations of both left and right ventricles were significantly higher than the controls 7 days after ligation and remained elevated for at least 14 days. The DNA concentrations remained significantly higher for one month. In vitro as well as in vivo labeling of myocardial RNA was unaffected by coronary artery ligation. In vitro labeling of DNA was unchanged during ischemia and infarction, while in vivo DNA labeling was significantly increased.
